The Marion Residence is officially a designated historical residence in the City of Seattle. The home is part of the historical ’23rd Avenue Houses Group’ which consists of six single family residences originally built in 1893. The row of residences were designated historical in December of 1979. However, in 1986 the owner of this lot illegally demolished his home. The Department of Neighborhoods decided that a new residence must reflect the general massing and relationship to 23rd Ave as that of the original residence. Working with the Landmarks Preservation Board, we designed a contemporary residence within the existing historical context. The new residence presents a modern reinterpretation of the original structure.
*Completed while working at Pb Elemental.
