This modern residence is an addition/remodel of an existing 1920's dutch colonial. Working with the owners, the goal was to increase the square footage to accommodate their growing family and to modernize the whole house in general (in particular the exterior). The existing roof was removed and the house was stripped down to its sheathing leaving a large rectangular volume. An attached accessory dwelling unit was added to the alley side and this volume was then clad in Corten steel. In addition, a third floor was added containing the new master suite. Cantilevering over the hillside, this white, stucco volume directs its attention toward the amazing view of downtown Bellevue, the Cascades, Lake Washington, and Seward Park. A large deck off the main level provides exterior living overlooking the views.
